Another great stop on our Route 66 trip was The Big Texan Steakhouse in Amarillo, Texas. It’s one of those places where you can get a free meal if you can eat a ton of food in a certain amount of time. We didn’t attempt that, but I can testify to the delicious food and the western atmosphere of the place. Plus, their gift shop has some of the best Route 66 souvenirs we found between Chicago and Albuquerque!

don’t overstuff yourself, though,

Kim,
I do t know what it is about this summer that makes me want to road trip constantly, and your memories about Route 76 have me itching to go again, even though O haven’t even been home a week. I’m excited for you to complete The Mother Road.

Thanks! I’m glad the summer began with you at Multnomah Falls and Portland. I would have loved to have completed Rt 66 on the 100th anniversary this year, but it looks like that isn’t in the cards. Maybe soon. I just got Mary Kay Andrews’ new book The Road Trip, and I can’t wait to read it!!

Debbie Lynn, yes! I still think about the food of Route 66. My jeans don’t even want to think about those desserts, but oh, what a delicious trip.
