Dad told the Secret to Happiness story best and referenced it often in his sermons. In the photo below, the fairy fable from Leo Buscaglia’s Loving Each Other is one he took to heart. He was always meeting the needs of others, always illustrating lessons through stories. This month, I’m sharing some of the audio clips I recorded as my brother and I talked with him in his final days. His words live on.
secrets lie within
the pages of obscure books
read widely: you’ll see

How special, to have recorded your dad’s voice and wisdom. I feel so honored to get to listen and thank you for adding the photo of the page from the book. I love that story too. Maybe it is why as teachers we are happy because ALL do need help and we get to respond!

Kim,
I love your haiku. It’s both true and a tempting invitation to hear stories. I wish my own memory held more stories from both my father and grandfather. Thank goodness for the women who love telling stories. I wish I’d been wiser and had written the stories down. You are engaging in such an important project this month. I know it’s hard and pray you’ll look back on it as a beautiful gift for your family. 🥰

Kim, your blog is a special one. Your father sounds like he was a thinker, writer, and a wonderful person who gives sound advice. You and your family will cherish your father’s audio for years to come.

Kim, I hope my comment appears because the first one vanished. I truly enjoyed your blog and listening to your father’s audio tape. He sounds like an amazing person who filled everyone’s life with wisdom. Thanks for sharing the photo of the story. “We all need one another” is a wonderful way to approach life.
