Welcome to the first day of the 2025 Slice of Life Writing Challenge, where bloggers post each day of the month. You can find the home page with links to blogs across the world here. I’m writing about things that happen in time increments this year, described in yesterday’s post.
Awakening All Sense
I smack snooze a time or two
reluctantly rise
feel the sweat of the night
still lingering from the
warmth of our
blue velour blankets
piled three layers high
smell the morning citrus soap before
I ever see it, the
exhilarating orange
cream bar that
heightens all senses
awakens all sense
our nation needs this orange
not the other

You describe that super tiny moment when one becomes awake so well. Smell before sight. Then all sesnes become heightened. And yes, then that last line as a comparison. I agree. The USA needs to wake up. So glad you posted right before me today as I was already planning to find you and read your slices inspired by one certain time period. I predict this is going to be a fun month of reading for me!!

Oh, Kim, I love your poem and the humor you close with. It’s clear that we do not need that other orange more than ever! Enjoy that citrus soap!

Your format is GREAT and could lead to posts about every segment of your day! Your description of those first awake moments and the day full of potential lulled me into a happy place until you, like me, remembered the horrid events of yesterday and the angst that roared back into those early moments of peace. As always, I look forward to reading your posts

Kim,
LOL! “Our nation needs this Orange not the other.” Amen, Sis! That other orange emits a much different scent than your soap. I read that those close to him say he smells like vinegar and 💩. ick and ew! He’s nasty in so many ways. BTW, you get up too early. At least for me this month!

I was not going to jump on your ship and slice up my days, but reading your post and Denise’s, I’ve popped over to my blog to write a slice of my day tomorrow. I may not do this every day, but it certainly gives you topics to write from. I love how the scent of your soap wakes you up in the fog of early morning.

What a unique approach to slicing, Kim! Trust your creative brain to come up with it. Love how that exhilarating fragrance of citrus soap wafts over like a morning blessing.

Oh, yes it does need that delicious sweet smelling orange. That’s all I want of orange. Thank you for this. I’m looking forward to the time slices this month, Kim.

I love your poem and that beautiful soap. I can almost smell it now. I really like this format you’ve chosen too. I don’t like the other orange either!
