Exhaustion

exhaustion sets in

unlike little cat feet fog

more like lion paws

I’m exhausted. Fall break begins today, and I’m ready for a rest.

I’ll travel to Kentucky for my daughter’s baby shower and spend time with her the first part of the week, perhaps doing some light hiking in her favorite state park and helping them find things for their new home. Then, I’ll come home and attend a book discussion group on Weyward by Emilie Hart and work on my writing deadlines for the book my writing group has coming out in 2025.

Normally, I don’t count minutes at work. I’m not a clock watcher for any other reason than being on time for meetings and deadlines.

Today is different. I’m ready to give my mind a break and enjoy some cooler temperatures in northern Kentucky. I’m ready to see some leaves changing color and feel the breeze nipping enough to make me zip my jacket.

I’m ready to rest.

  1. Kim,

I feel that exhaustion! I’ve worked every day this week and have so many books to read and review for my NCTE committee. And of course the daily poem writing. I’m still doing a Canva every day. As you know, I’m not involved in any of the EELA books but living that life on the fringe; however, the NCTE committee work has inspired several book ideas I’m hoping to pull together after the convention. Enjoy your daughter time next week. Get rejuvinated.

    1. Thank you, Glenda! I’m just getting to blog responses and I apologize for my delay. Thanks for reading! I haven’t even begun to think about Boston other than reservations and registration. I am ready for the cooler weather, though! I wish Ada was before Sunday. I can’t wait to hear her speak – I watch YouTube videos of her and think she is amazing, and so real and down to earth. Can’t wait to see you next month!
