You’re the one who gave birth. So happy BIRTH day, Mom! That’s just him – – always putting others first, even on his own birthday. Happy birthday, Marshall!

  1. Happy Birthday, Marshall – your mom is one in a gazillion! Kim: there is nothing like a mama’s memory, celebrating the magnificent people our beloved little ones have come to be. I adore reverso poems; this one is in itself a blessing, with its glimpse of Marshall’s vibrant life and joie de vivre. I find myself lingering on the words “a treasured miracle.” And those photos-!! Beautiful, beautiful family, my friend.

    1. Thank you, Fran, for always being so encouraging. I thought of you as I was writing the reverso, wishing mine would flow like yours do. I’ll keep on trying. I think I’m getting a step closer, but nowhere near your reverso magic. I appreciate your sweet comments – – indeed, he has a beautiful family, and I’m blessed that I love his wife as much as I love him. She is an absolute gift. She’s as patient and giving as she can be, soft spoken, and she has absolutely no idea how beautiful she is. Just a natural.

  2. Kim,
This is a lovely celebration of a mom’s love for her son. I love the repetition of Marshall calling you to wish you a happy birth day. So very thoughtful. The photos are wonderful. Like your son, mine lives simply. It really is the best way. Happy birthday to you and to Marshall.

  3. Kim, what a treasure Marshall is. Happy birthday to him and happy BIRTH day to you, mama. Oh, my goodness, I had to come find out what “A Reverso Concrete Acrostic” was, and now I know. It took me some time to figure out the “concrete,” but your hint about turning the phone on the side helped the lines straighten out to form the sweet concrete part of your poem! Wonderful!

(By the way, Kim, The Elephant’s Magician was well worth our time. My husband and I both loved it.)

    1. I’m glad to know about the movie. I’m adding it to our list. We are finishing a Route 66 series on Netflix right now by a couple who traveled it last summer, so we are taking notes as they share their highlights – – and then we will return to movies. Thanks for the sweet comments today – yes, it took a little work to get the M to appear.

  4. I love the repetition of this poem form – and the love that is radiating throughout. He is both wise and kind – we should all be calling our mothers on our birthdays, such a beautiful gesture. He is a handsome man and has a gorgeous family.

    1. Thank you, Maureen! I appreciate those sweet words ! I get to see them all this weekend, and I’m so ready – and I agree he has a gorgeous family. He and his wife are a wonderful team – they are friends, lovers, and they manage to keep the parenting balanced so that one is not doing all the work.

  5. I’ll be honest, I thought I wouldn’t like the reversal of the first half. But I do! It gives you a reread and adds emphasis in a beautiful way. Your poem reminds us of how our writing can be a gift- I trust you will give it to your son!

    1. Thank you, Fran. I have not been very successful at reversos. I love the idea and would love to write one that flowed in sentence form and not in phrases, backward and forward interchangeably. I think it’s beyond my skill set. Thank you for your kind comments on this one – – I did share this with my son this morning and he liked it!
