Countryside Charms
daffodil daybreaks rouse meadow-mist eyes
bluebird sings blessings with praise-reverent cries
daylily sunbursts coax seedlings to rise
paint carpets of clover in emerald surprise
marigold sunsets kiss rolling hill skies
lift sweet bedtime prayers on wings of fireflies

Beautiful. Such scenes do not fail to touch the heart.

Utterly beautiful, Kim, every single set of lines. How I love rhyme! And – as you know – how I love pastoral scenes. Bluebirds, symbolizing the inherent reverence… emerald green, a new favorite color for me…and here are your trademark fireflies. I am right in the midst, absorbing the peace and wonder, for you have painted the scene to life and brought me in.

Thank you so much, Fran. I see in both of our poems today a lot of need for peace and stopping to take breaths and bask in the moments. I thought of you instantly when I saw the heron yesterday. And the hymn I will sing in my head, it is one of my favorites. I’m so glad to know you are a fellow hymn lover. With all the world around us moving in the direction of praise music – some of which I also enjoy on occasion – I find the poetry and reverence of hymn lyrics and music to be medicinal and healing.

Kim,
The photo is gorgeous, and you capture it in your poem full of ethereal language. I wish I were in the south enjoying spring weather and the bidding I hear in your poem. It’s lovely.

Thank you! Right now, it is 75 degrees and the filtered sun is streaming through the pines, casting a lazy net over the farm – – – but alas, ……clouds of pollen are a swirlin’!

Kim, your poem is beautiful and inspiring. I love your use of rhyme in this one. It is so uplifting! Is this a particular poetry form? Love your final line since fireflies are a perfect bedtime image.

Barb, there might be a name for the form, but I just wanted to capture the sun’s journey from morning to night with three couplets. Thanks so much for the sweet words!
