One of my goals in retirement is to exercise for 20 minutes at least 3 times a week. They say a body in motion stays in motion….so I’m heeding the words of all the wellness experts and listening closely to their sage wisdom. This morning, I walked a mile on the inheritance treadmill Dad pulled from the river house rubble a decade ago. No injuries happened in the walking of this mile, and if my children are reading, I’d like it to be noted that I held on to the handrails and double-knotted my Hokas.
Firing Up the Treadmill
I pulled it out from
its corner on the porch
turned on the overhead fan
wiped it down
plugged it in
fired it up
stepped out
put one foot in front of the other
and began the journey
with a single step

Kim, good for you! Movement sounds like a great retirement goal, and the treadmill is great to have on these sweltering summer days.

Safety first is important! I’m still getting on my cheap spin bike almost every day for 30 minutes. I also love using hand weights and stretching (standing stretches and easy yoga). Just be sure you’re enjoying whatever movement you choose.

I have “found” the benefit of (almost) daily exercise in my semi retired state mostly because it really does help to add structure to my days! I have some pretty significant issues with bone loss and the it does seem to be helping to keep the tide at bay. I can see you dusting off the bike in the early morning light! Make sure to give yourself rewards/breaks! It helps!

Exercise really helps set a routine for me. It’s the one thing I’ve committed to daily. It just feels good to move your body.
