I see his figure
peeking around the sage chair
looking right at me
acting non-chalant
resting briefly to lick paws
he stretches out, yawns
as if he does not
have a burning agenda
playing me a fool
his ball rests nearby
then a thump of his black tail
and a sudden pounce
an invitation
to an early-morning game
that I can’t resist

I enjoyed the word choice in your poem: peeking, non-chalant, lick, yawn, playing me a fool, thump, pounce
You capture your dog’s antics using just the write words!

My Charlie was a ball player. He’d toss and fetch all day long. Albert is getting the hang of it. He certainly loves the fetch part of the game. I love how you write with such ease about your pups.

I love when dogs invite you to play! I was playing with a strangers golden retriever the other day in a gas station. When his owner came back he looked at me and said, “I see Domino made another friend!” I laughed and patted Domino goodbye.

I have loved the playful swipe of a ball towards you while you are eating breakfast or watching TV. While I do not have a pet these days, you post makes me wonder if I might reconsider…
