Today’s poem is a random line poem, constructed from a line heard or read randomly. My husband is an NCIS fan, and he’s in season 20. I’m usually reading or writing when he’s watching his show. I heard Kasey say she was going to drink a ginger ale (a drink I don’t think she likes). I jotted it down and wrote this random line poem.
Secrets
I'm telling secrets~
I'll give it all (everything)
especially that tacky lamp
~drink a ginger ale
feel the stomach knots untie~
to release the past
these misplaced values
that stood in the way
of your being
there

What a creative twist you gave to this one line, tumbling into secret-keeping. It’s as if that ginger ale drinking was a ‘tell’, showing some falsehood, covering something up. Wonderfully creative, Kim! You’ve given me inspiration for my poetry writing. I adore these two lines,
~drink a ginger ale
feel the stomach knots untie~
If only a sip of ginger ale could free us from our secret burdens.

Nice. Misplaced values. How they influence us !

Kim,
Ken is a CSI fan, too. I’m often writing as he watches the show. This is a discussion topic on repeat. There’s comfort and love in these redundant conversations. I’m stealing this idea of snagging a line from something I heard and turning it into a poem. “misplaced values” is something I contemplate often.

Kim, your poem is intricate and compelling. I love how you tied all of these comments together to show a slice of your life and to create a poem.

Kim, wow, you are on a roll in your poetry! “I’ll give it all (everything) / especially that tacky lamp” is so intimate and interesting. And this came from that simple random line you heard on NCIS. Amazing.
