I’ve been reading Kyle Vaughn’s Lightning Paths: 75 Poetry Writing Exercises, (available on Amazon, linked on title or here on NCTE), which inspired me to delve into another book study of poetry forms and responses. I’ll be making my way through the exercises and prompts between now and the end of the year.

Above: Lake Hamburg from Campsite 18 at Hamburg State Park, early morning of October 30, 2022 after vapors disappeared
Below: A pond near the Johnson Funny Farm where I see steam rising each morning

On Lake Hamburg wisps of steam vapors on Lake Hamburg rising, swirling, reaching Heavenward vanishing into the fall trees on the edge of the shore light, ethereal, angelic is that you over there, waving from the distant shore?
So much I love about your simple slice. First, your committment to PD and your goal of exploring this poem forms. You name your goal and include the deadline. a perfect nudge. Then a poem that captures in words the images on the photos. But I really like your padlet. I’m a big fan of padlet!! But I haven;t used the timeline format yet. I love how you use it to hold your poems!! Thanks for sharing all this brilliance today!

Kim,
Gorgeous pictures and poem. I particularly like the way the last two lines break the isolation, thus reminding us we’re never alone. I miss the feeling of dewy mornings in fall one experiences in humid climates.

Kim, I was immediately drawn in by the title and was not disappointed. The photos and your poem were perfectly paired.
Thank you for the bonus content of telling us about your study of poetry forms – this is something to put on my to do list and I have noted Kyle’s title.

Just like having a person or animal enlivens a photograph, your last two li es add so much to your beautiful poem. And thanks very much for the sharing of recommendations, I will be looking to get the book.

There’s so much to love here – but the last two lines are striking!
