revival raindrops
fortitude for foxtail ferns
showered sustenance
I might be losing a foxtail fern I’ve been mothering for two years. As the rain moved in (predicted until 4 p.m. today and 3 more days this week), I swept the fox twins out from under the eave into the showery forecast to let them drink Mother Nature’s healing elixir for winter-frail plants. The twin at the top is waning, weakening by the week. I’m hoping these rainy day opportunities in the forecast will bring life-giving magic that simply can’t come from a hose.
I need to tap into Plant Vibrations on YouTube and check out what Devin Wallien says to do for them. He’s a young Internet personality from Pennsylvania taking the flora world by storm, and his laid-back organic passion for plants inspires me to channel my own inner green thumb.
For today, though, it’s off to work, and while I’m there, this pair of foxes will be right here at home…….day drinking.

Day drinking made me chuckle. I hope the rain revives them. I assume the two have been in the same space. I’m no expert by any means, but I have friends who tell me there is a right spot somewhere. You just have to find it.

Kim, “showered sustenance” is beautiful. I love the interesting phrases you bring into your writing–“day drinking”–and those you create are even better–“this pair of foxes”. Fun post. I hope the little one survives.

Kim,
I wish I could grow ferns, but our climate is so cold that I fear for their survival. Add to that my complete ineptitude on caring for house plants. Except for two. More about them later. Anyway, I love the title here and hope those ferns both survive. Maybe they each need a fairy for inspiration.

Such a lively post, Kim – and the opening haiku just beautiful. I didn’t inherit the green thumbs of my grandmothers, alas… so this Plant Vibrations may be just the thing for me! I do hope the day-drinking helps the ferns, poor things.
