Margaret, this one is the Minerva variety. It’s going to be red at the edges with bright streaks of white in the middle of each bloom. I thought about the pure red, but I liked the bland color of the plant pot for this one.
What a great idea – pairing a book with watching a plant grow! There is no other plant that I think we can “watch” grow like an amaryllis. It’s the most exciting bloom to pop open!
What a nice gift! What color will it be? Or is that a surprise, too?

I love amarylisses! I used to grow them in my classroom as we read Natalie Babbitt’s Eye of the Amaryllis. Great middle fiction book!
